Read the excerpt below, then answer the following questions.

Full Article

Last week in Atlanta, I got to interview Soulja Boy Tell Em. I found out just how young he really is. He was one of about ten rappers I interviewed in one day for my BET show, The Black Carpet. I decided it'd be fun to give all the rappers part of the Proust questionnaire. I thought it'd be a way to get beyond image and into who they really are. Most of the guys gave good, thoughtful, intelligent, sensitive answers. I asked Juelz Santana, “How would you like to die?” He said, "Loved."

Then came Soulja Boy Tell Em. I asked him, “What historical figure do you most hate?” He was stumped. I said, "Others have said Hitler, bin Laden, the slave masters..." He said, "Oh wait! Hold up! Shout out to the slave masters! Without them we'd still be in Africa."

My jaw, at this point, was on the ground."We wouldn't be here," he continued, having no idea how far in it he'd stepped, "to get this ice and tattoos."

Wow. Never mind that diamonds come from Africa. Never mind that there were many generations of pain in between leaving Africa and getting diamonds. Never mind that the long-term cataclysmic effects of subtracting about tens of millions of young, strong people from Africa over the course of a couple of centuries is a large part of the reason why Africa now appears so distasteful to you. Never mind all that, Soulja Boy. You put country first.

Here is the whole article

1. What do you think about what Soulja Boy said? Do you agree or disagree? Please give me your thoughts in a few sentences.
2. Are public figures responsible to be role-models? Why or why not?

1. I do not agree with what he said about the slave masters and giving them credit for making his life better because his ancestors had to go through a great deal of pain and heartache because of the slave masters.

2. Public figures are responsible for being role models because they are always in the eye of children and adults which might look up to them.

I think what Soulja Boy said was horrible. Thousands of africans were killed because of slave masters and he wants to go and praise them? He said without them he wouldn't be here to get his "ice and tattos." All he cares about is money. Thats not right. I totally disagree with what he said.

2. I think public figures are responsible for being role models because every one knows celebritites. They catch the eye of everybody. They are usually the ones who start trends or a new statement. When that happens, all the public continue their trends and/or actions to be "cool" I guess.

1. I really dont understand why people take everything to heart. He just said a simple thing if thats what he thinks then what can we do about it. He's uneducated its not his fault its his parents so blame them not him. Every one is just trying to bring him down because of his success on songs that they dont agree with OH WELL guess what he's still rich!!!!!!

2. No just because their in the lime light dosen't mean they have to change the way they act its up to YOUR kids to know better which means its up to YOU to teach them better!!!

1. What do you think about what Soulja Boy said? I most certainly disagree. None the less I understand with what he is saying, but he could have said it better. The way he said it, makes him sound really dumb and very clueless.

2. People expect them to be but not really. They should watch out what they do or what they say because they do have younger fans, but the fans is not their responsibilty.

1. What Soulja Boy said about the slave masters had nothing to do with the question really. I disagree with the comment he had. because most African Americans would have immigrated to other places.
2. Yes and no. Yes, because most public figures know what how to interact with the media, and they know how to answer simple questions. No, because some public figures have no idea what they're talking about, and they cannot answer the simplest of questions.

2.i think that public figures are role models because they are the ones that have to give people a good example. But at the same time no because they are normal people that get paid and sometimes they don't know what they are saying or doing.

1. No, I dont agree with his answer at all, seriously it just pissed me off. Slaves had to go thru so much torture and pain, and he makes a joke saying that without them he wouldnt have his "ice" or tattoos.wtf? Those are material items and how shallow is he.And evetually people travelled and etc so he could have still ended up in the same place as he is now.
I want to kick him!
Katherine F says: Diamonds come from africa so what is he talking about he can't have no damn ice??

2. I don't think public figures are responsible enough to be role models because celebrities are just regular people that get paid alot and make mistakes, theres just a less chance of you finding out what they do wrong because those arent always posted. And look at paris hilton and lindsay lohan and britney spears. All they do is flash their yoohoos to the camera.
So no I dont think they are responsible enough.

1.Soulja Boy is an idiot he's what 18 and doesn't know how to answer a question. Does he not know what Africans have been through he should go back to school and catch up on his history.

2.Public figures such as Beyonce could be a "good" role-model because she is intelligent, unlike Soulja Boy who is not smart in anyway doesnt set a good role-model to children.

1. I do not agree with what Soulja boy said. However, I don't think all of what he said whas his fault. I don't think he is trained to handle any type of seriuous question that is thrown at him in interviews. His ancestors went went through slavery for hundreds of years, and since he hasn't had to go through any of that, because of his new found fame, he wouldn't understand.

2. Public figures are not suffient enough to be responsible role-models because they are regualr people, how make mistakes and who aren't perfect.

I think what Soulja Boy said was FUNNY that really isnt something he should say in the black community.
2)Kind of, i personally do not look up to them but because their famous they are looked up to no matter what.

1. With what soulja boy said was wrong and out of line. within those very few words, he showed how much he lacked in morals, literacy, ettiquette and manners. but when he said that without all of the slave masters we'd still be in africa, wouldnt have the tattoos and ice that we have it also showed how selfish and gotty he is exactly the same as his music disgusting and dirty something no one needs.

2. Public figures are responsible with being role models. young children and teenagers see them as a higher reign at times. and they think that if they act like that person and or follow in their foot steps that one day they will hopefully end up like them when they're grown. and they would do anything to have the end result they wish for most.

1.Wow! What Soulja Boy said was definately uncalled for. He crossed a line that for many people, black, or white, is a very sensitive subject. Those few words said many things about Soulja Boy. But not only those words but the nature and content of his lyrics. To be that disrespectful it makes me wonder who taught him that thinking of women like that is okay. And also, the way that he said his answer "Shout out to the slave masters.", it kind of made it seem like he was proud of the fact that many people in history were slaves. His remarks are unbelievable.

2. Yes, public figures are supposed to have the attitude and present themselves as respectful young people because if they dont then the young adolescents of today's society will begin to act the way that they do. For example, Soulja Boy's lyrics say many things about the way that he acts. " Supersoak that ho." What kind of disrespect is that to the women of todays world?
